Back to School Backpacks

It is now officially summer and this is a good time to start putting together backpacks full of supplies for refugee youths arriving who may be starting school for the very first time.

Kindergarten:

  • 4 Large glue sticks
  • 1 Box of 24 colored pencils (No Markers)
  • 1 Box of 24 crayons
  • 1 Pencil Box
  • 2 Pink Pearl Erasers
  • 2 Pocket folders, solid colors only (No Binders, No Plastic Folders)
  • Backpack, (Big enough to fit their folders & books)

First Grade:

  • 2 Dozen #2 pencils
  • 3-6 Glue sticks
  • 2 Boxes of crayons, 24 or 48
  • Children’s scissors
  • Pencil/School box large enough to hold crayons,
  • pencils, whiteboard markers and eraser
  • 2 Single subject wide ruled spiral notebooks
  • 1 Composition notebook without spiral
  • 1 Plain colored 1-inch 3-ring binder
  • 2 Black dry erase markers
  • 1 Soft refill pack of wipes (diaper-type)
  • 1 Clear reusable water bottle

Second Grade:                

  • 2 Dozen #2 pencils
  • 6 Glue sticks
  • 1 Box of crayons, 24 or 32 ONLY
  • 1 Dry erase marker, black or blue
  • Sharp-pointed children’s scissors
  • School box
  • 1 Single subject wide ruled spiral notebook
  • 1 Plain-colored 1-inch 3-ring binder

Third Grade:

  • 2 Pink erasers
  • 2 Dozen #2 pencils (NOT Mechanical)
  • 1 Bottle white glue
  • 2 Glue sticks
  • 1 Box of crayons 24 or 48
  • 1 Box of water-based markers
  • Sharp-pointed scissors
  • Ruler 12”, including metric
  • Pencil box
  • 3 Single subject wide ruled spiral notebooks
  • 1 Composition notebooks
  • 1 Package wide ruled loose-leaf paper
  • 2 Two-pocket folders with prongs
  • 1 Plain colored 1-inch 3-ring binder

Fourth Grade:

  • Crayons / markers / or colored pencils

  • Manual pencil sharpener
  • 10 Single subject college ruled spiral notebooks
  • 2 Composition notebooks

  • Pencil pouch (No Boxes)
  • 1 USB flash drive (Optional)

Middle School:

  • Pencil sharpener (hand-held with a top to collect shavings)
  • A large pink eraser
  • Ballpoint pens (Get a few red ink ones too, because some teachers have students do peer editing.)
  • Highlighters
  • Spiral-bound or composition notebooks
  • Loose-leaf notebook (college-ruled)
  • A ruler with English and metric measurements
  • A pencil case that fits in a binder
  • Binder dividers (The kinds with pockets are good for loose papers.)
  • Pocket folders
  • Folders that fit in binders
  • A small notebook to record assignments
  • A calendar for scheduling assignments
  • A sturdy supportive backpack
